On a night that ace Dallas Keuchel was scratched just before the game due to illness, the Astros turned to Dayan Diaz. Diaz lasted just 2 2/3 innings, allowing three runs with three strikeouts. The Astros fell to the Royals, 7-5.

Diaz, Tony Sipp and Michael Feliz combined to give up seven earned runs on a night where Houston really needed to lean on its bullpen. The offense fought back, scoring three runs in the top of the 8th, but with the tying run at the plate in the 9th, Yuli Gurriel struck out, and the Astros lost their second consecutive game after their 11-game win streak ended on Tuesday.
