With the Houston Texans' 2023 football season underway, our SportsTalk790 made their season record predictions for the inaugural year under DeMeco Ryans and rookie QB CJ Stroud. Here's how we think they will finish and why:
- Sean Salisbury: 7-10
Too young to be better, and with a rookie QB, OC and head coach, it will be tough. Jacksonville is still the best in the division.
- Brian LaLima: 7-10
The defense will be much improved under DeMeco Ryans but injuries to the offensive line have me concerned for how the offense will move the football.
- Stan Norfleet: 7-10
Offensive line depth has become an issue. The nature of this offense, we may not see a lot of splash plays from CJ Stroud, he just needs to be methodical.
- Chris Gordy: 6-11
I think DeMeco is the right guy for the job, and I really like their draft picks the past two seasons, but they’re still a year away from turning the ship all the way around. They’ll have improved play this year, some close losses, but not enough to get over the hump.
- Matt Thomas: 5-12
Rookie growing pains for CJ, offensive line will struggle, Texans’ offense doesn’t have enough playmakers, Will Anderson will shine
- Ross Villarreal: 5-12
CJ Stroud will flash some special play and make some mistakes. The defense can keep them in a few games but the O-line and pass-catcher question marks won't allow them back in games where they get down two scores which will limit their ceiling.
Adam Wexler: 6-11
The Texans will win at least four games against the AFC & NFC South, another against the tanking Cardinals & another unexpected one. But the foundation for future success will finally be laid as C.J. Stroud shows steady improvement throughout the season, while Will Anderson earns defensive rookie of the year honors.
- Adam Clanton: 6-11
A weak division and soft 2023 schedule, and improvement in talent and scheme on the defensive side of the football. Continuing to improve.
