Source: Texans to re-sign LB Kamu Grugier-Hill to one-year, $4 million deal

Veteran linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill is expected to re-sign with Texans on a one-year, $4 million contract, according to a league source The Texans were able to retain their leading tackler coming off breakthrough season: career-high 108 tackles, 13 for losses, three sacks, one interception, five quarterback hits.

He was a Pro Bowl alternate.

Grugier-Hill's athleticism, instincts, range, tackling ability and pass coverage skills made him an outstanding fit for coach Lovie Smith's traditional 4-3 scheme that emphasizes mobility and versatility at the linebacker position.

Grugier-Hill is making a sound recovery from a knee injury that required a meniscus surgery and his medical outlook is positive, per sources.

Grugier-Hill played last season under a one-year, $3.25 million contract. Previously with the Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots, Grugier-Hill forced two fumbles and had an interception that he returned 82 yards in a win over the Tennessee Titans. They were previously able to retain inside linebacker Christian Kirksey on a two-year deal and traded a sixth-round draft pick to the New York Jets for linebacker Blake Cashman.Aaron Wilson is a Pro Football Network reporter and analyst and a contributor to Sports Talk 790.
