Cuban Trio Launch Homers, Cole Reaches 200 K's as Astros Blow Out A's 11-1

Gerrit Cole dominated Monday night, striking out 11 as the Astros blew out the A's, 11-1.

Cole tossed seven innings, giving up one run on two hits to earn his 11th win of the season. He's the first pitcher to reach 200 K's in the MLB this season and extended his strikeout lead with 205. It took just 133.1 innings pitched for Cole to reach 200 strikeouts which is the 2nd fewest in MLB history. Randy Johnson did it in 130.2 innings back in 2001.

The trio of Yordan Alvarez, Yuli Gurriel and Aledmys Diaz hit home runs to lead the offense on a night where Houston pounded out 13 hits and 11 runs. The three homers came from all Cuban-born players on the Astros roster. Monday night was the first game back for Diaz after spending time on the IL and he recorded three RBI. With two RBI, Alvarez is the first player since 1920 to record 35 RBI in the first 30 games of a career. Gurriel and Robinson Chirinos both had three hits on the night as Jose Altuve had two hits and an RBI.

Wade Miley will take the mound for Houston Tuesday night in game two of the series. Miley is 8-4 with a 3.25 era.
