Cole Strikes Out 12 as Astros Beat Cubs 6-5

Gerrit Cole tossed six strong innings to earn his 5th win of the season as the Astros beat the Cubs, 6-5. Cole tied a season high by striking out 12 in the win Monday afternoon from Minute Maid Park.

The Astros used a big third inning by scoring five runs that was started by a Yuli Gurriel RBI single. Jack Mayfield also had an RBI in the inning as he played in his MLB debut. Mayfield was called up from triple-a Round Rock to replace the injured Aledmys Diaz. Robinson Chirinos head an RBI double after the Gurriel single which was followed by Mayfield's RBI ground out. Derek Fisher and Jake Marisnick both had RBIs to follow to push the lead to 6-2. Gurriel had three hits along with two hits from Fisher.

Chicago would get a run in the 7th to cut the lead down to 6-3 and then two solo blasts off Houston's closer, Roberto Osuna in the 9th. Osuna shook off the homers and struck out Javy Baez to end the game. With the save, Osuna now has 14 on the year.

Corbin Martin will get the start Tuesday night looking to bounce back after a rough start against the White Sox in his previous outing. Martin will throw to Garrett Stubbs who was just called up with Max Stassi going on the IL. Stubbs will make his major league debut against the Cubs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10pm.
