Springer Dinger Pushes Astros Past Red Sox For 9th Straight Win

Nine straight wins. The Astros beat the Red Sox 3-1 Friday night behind a George Springer two run bomb in the 8th inning. Josh Reddick would then hit a sac-fly in the same inning to add an insurance run. Springer's dinger was his American League leading 17th of the season as Houston improved their record in the month of May to 12-3.

Gerrit Cole got the start on the mound and pitched five innings while giving up six hits. Cole struck out seven, walked one and did not give up any runs. Ryan Pressly continued his dominance by throwing a perfect 8th inning. With the scoreless inning, Pressly set a record with 39 consecutive scoreless innings. Roberto Osuna recorded his 11th save of the season.

Corbin Martin will make his second career start in game two of the series on Saturday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:15pm CT.
