Verlander Deals as Astros Break Out Brooms to Sweep Tigers

The Houston Astros broke out the brooms after a 5-1 victory over the Tigers Wednesday night. With the win, the Astros sweep the series against Detroit.

Justin Verlander dominated against his old team with seven strong innings. Verlander gave up just two hits and struck out nine on the way to his seventh win of the season.

Alex Bregman hit his 14th homer of the season in the first with a solo blast to get the Astros on the board. Jake Marisnick went 2-3 with two RBI. George Springer and Robinson Chirinos both had RBI in the victory.

Ryan Pressly three another scoreless inning to extend his scoreless inning streak to 37.

The Astros will travel to Boston to take on the Red Sox Friday night. Gerrit Cole will take the mound in game one of the series. First pitch is scheduled corn 6:10pm CT.
