HOUSTON – Texans starting quarterback C.J. Stroud is still dealing with concussion symptoms and is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns with veteran Case Keenum preparing to make his second start in a row, per league sources.
Stroud is dealing with sensitivity to light and other common concussion symptoms, per sources. He is not medically cleared to practice Wednesday, per sources.
Former New York Jets quarterback Tim Boyle is being signed to the practice squad one day after the Texans put in an unsuccessful waiver claim for quarterback Nathan Rourke, who was awarded to the New England Patriots off waivers, per sources.
Keenum, 35, led the Texans to a 19-16 overtime win over the Tennessee Titans. He is expected to start against the Cleveland Browns, his former team, on Sunday, barring an unexpected improvement in Stroud’s condition two weeks after suffering a concussion on a late hit from Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.
Boyle is a former undrafted free agent from Eastern Kentucky who has also played for the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears.
He played in three games and two starts this year for the Jets, completing 62.3 percent of his throws for 360 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions.
