Astros Acquire RP Tyler Clippard

PHOENIX, AZ - The Houston Astros have acquired right-handed reliever Tyler Clippard from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow.

Clippard, 32, has posted a 4.27 ERA (22ER/46.1IP) with three saves in 51 appearances this season, which has been split between the Yankees (40g) and White Sox (11g).  He’s allowed just a .205 opponent batting average and has struck out over a hitter per inning, recording 54 strikeouts in 46.1 innings pitched. Since the All-Star break, Clippard owns a 1.50 ERA (2ER/12IP) in 13 appearances.

A veteran of 11 Major League seasons, Clippard owns a 48-41 lifetime record with a 3.04 ERA, while posting 59 saves in 609 Major League appearances. He’s made 14 postseason appearances, including three appearances for the Mets in the 2015 World Series.

The Astros will make a corresponding move to the active roster tomorrow. With the addition of Clippard, the 40-man roster is now full.
